Manufacturer: Garmin
Model Number: GMR122X xHD2
Series: xHD2
Condition: Used
Additional Notes:
When we acquired this radar, the pedestal showed signs of oxidation. We went ahead and stripped the radar down completely, had it powder-coated white, reassembled it, and confirmed it was in working functionality. Due to the poor quality of metal, Garmin used to manufacture these radar pedestals, there may be slight blemishes on the outside. There are also areas where the paint chipped after painting and we patched it. These areas are hard to see once mounted.
We fully tested this unit and updated it to the latest software version.
During testing this radar picked up targets 8-32Nm out with no issues.
Max Range 72nm
Please see photos for item condition and sale contents.
This antenna has some scratches on it. It also has a xhd decal on it, but this sale is for an xHD2 radar. There is no difference between antennas aside form the decals.
The antenna can be replaced with a 6ft antenna at no additional cost if one is available. Please send us a message before purchasing and we can check what we have available.
**Garmin Radar Disclaimer:**
Max Marine Electronics believes in full transparency; We sell Garmin radars due to overwhelming demand from customers. Garmin builds a suite of extremely easy to use, and for the most part, reliable marine electronics products. Their radars are a rare exception. We have always done our best to supply the best product we can, but there are factors beyond our control. These factors include the fact that Garmin radars have a disproportionately high rate of failure, are made with mediocre aluminum alloys (open array radars only), and that all but the latest/current production XHD2 (open array radars) and XHD (dome radars) are no longer serviced by Garmin and parts are no longer available.
The disproportionately high rate of failure is well documented online. Our radars are tested to ensure full functionality at the time of sale and come with a 90-day warranty. The aluminum alloy issue is also well documented – the aluminum oxidizes which cause the factory powder coating to blister. This is unattractive and can cause water intrusion when the blistering occurs in the case-seal area of the pedestal. We strip, bead blast, and powder coat nearly every Garmin pedestal we sell. Because the degradation of the aluminum leaves small artifacts in the surface of the aluminum, some of those artifacts will show through on the powder coating. Furthermore, because of the aluminum alloys used in manufacturing, there may be small areas of off gassing that are left in the powder coating process. Lastly, Garmin no longer supports or produces parts for any radars that are not current production. This includes the original GMR40X, all XHD pedestals, and all non-XHD domes.
This means that after the Max Marine Electronics’ 90-day warranty (the same warranty Garmin gives to factory repaired products), there is no resource for these radars to be serviced. We certainly hope and expect the radars will last well beyond the warranty period, and we have put a lot of time into trying to make the best of the situation with these radars. We believe that if buying a used Garmin radar, buying one of ours will give buyers the best shot at a reasonable service life
