This AHD 880TC was replaced due to LCD and backlight issues. We have replaced one of the ccfl transformers which was causing the backlight issue, installed a new LCD, and cleaned all connections and PCB’s with DeoxIT and compressed air.
Full disclosure is our policy – when we received the unit, the LCD was degraded and the backlight was dim, but the unit powered on and appeared to function normally. When we opened the unit up, we saw that the ferrous metal LCD housing had formed a very light surface rust in spots and there was evidence that moisture (not water, big difference) had entered the unit. One of the two transformers on the backlight circuit assemblies had failed. We were able to source a new transformer and installed it in place of the failed one.
Apart from the backlight, the remaining circuit boards were intact and in great shape, as were all of the connections inside and outside the unit.
After the repairs, we burned the unit in for 18 hours on the bench with no issues. We were able to test LCD, touchscreen, and auto-dimming functionality, we were not able to test the display any further due to lack of a proper test jig for Boening displays.
The display is sold as working with a 90 day warranty. Buyers have 30 days to ensure functionality, if the display is found to be non-functional, we will accept a return (we pay return shipping) within 30 days.
Please note: We have limited knowledge of the configuration of these displays. This AHD 880TC is setup for use on Princess Yachts, you may need to have a Boening dealer reconfigure the display to your specific application.
