We recently acquired a batch of new stock from an ACR distributor that was being cycled through for new inventory due to age. Typically, distributors try to keep EPIRB and PLB inventory that is no more than a year old, so that when this inventory is sold at retail price, consumers get nearly the full initial battery/service life out of the product. We were able to secure some product that is slightly out of this range, but still has a ton of service life left!
ACR recommends changing of the hydrostatic release device 4 years after manufacture OR after 2 years in service. This EPIRB requires a battery change 10 years after the manufacture date.
This EPIRB has a manufacture date of 8/29/22.
This means that the EPIRB battery will be good through 8/29/2032 and the hydrostatic release device will be good through 8/29/2026 or 2 years after installation, whichever comes first. In other words, if the EPIRB is commissioned before 8/29/2024, the date of manufacture has no bearing on the life of the hydrostatic release device. When the device needs replacement, the kit is $120 and goes by part #HRU-100
As this is a safety device with a time sensitive shelf life, we do not accept returns on EPIRBs unless the item is damaged in shipping or there is an actual issue with the EPIRB. This policy ensures that we are able to provide a vital life-saving safety product to customers where the chain of custody is known – we could not in good conscience sell an EPIRB that was shipped to a customer and returned.
