Additional Notes: Please read the entire description carefully, as this transducer offers an excellent value but will not work in all applications. This transducer was one of several never-installed transducers we aquired from a marine electronics shop that went out of business. This transducer was designed to be used with Simrad EQ/CA/CX/CE series, which use a 7-pin connector. However, when we recieved it, there was no way for us to know this because other units (JRC and Raytheon) also use this 7-pin connector. We had to cut off the connector to properly test and identify the transducer – the connector is included on the off-chance you’re using this for a Simrad EQ/CA/CX/CE series – you can splice the connector back on.
The family of Simrad units this transducer is for has a sounder built around the Simrad Fisheries Combi series of transducers, which uses a 75ohm impedance on both 50khz and 200 khz sides. Since this transducer was built with the same design parameters as the Combi, it features a 75 ohm impedance on both frequencies. A normal B260 has a higher impedance on the 50khz side and a similar impedance on the 200khz side, therefore, connecting this dual line transducer to something like a Furuno DFF3 and running it as a B260 will result in a bump in the power output of the 50khz side unit (~1200w instead of 1000), but it will still be operating well within the confines of its allowable design limits.
We tested the transducer on an Airmar TDT1000 to aid in identifying it. Test results are in the photos. The reason the test shows “out of range” on the 50-side is because Airmar doesn’t have this iteration of the B260 in their library of tests, so while we cannot show “in range,” we can see that the impedance dips into the range the Simrad would be using – in short, the transducer is good. We also tested the internal temp sensor and it is working great, multimeter photo shows the 10k ohm thermistor test.
This can be used on a multitude of units as outlined below:
Simrad – Obviously, they can be used on the EQ/CA/CX/CE series units they were originally intended for, you will need to splice the 7-pin plug to connect to echo2. For newer evo Simrads, probably the best option is to directly wire to the BSM-2 module and manually set the impedance taps to 100 ohm. For NSS evo 3/3s, you can wire directly to the 2x Xsonic transducer ports (you will need 2x Xsonic pigtails and will need to splice) and select the “Combi 50/200” transducer as your transducer type. They will operate at 1kw.
Furuno – For any dual line (not 10-pin!) sounder or sounder module, such as DFF3, FCV-295, FCV-1150, etc, you can wire to terminals (or solder to 4-pin plugs) and select the same taps as the B260 on the tap settings chart.
As far as we know, there is not an application where this will work on Raymarine, and it will not work on any 10-pin Furuno. It will work on the Garmin GSD26 with manual frequency and impedance programming but at that point, you’re spending $1500 on a module for a $1000 transducer – the economics don’t make sense. If you have a question about your specific application or situation, please feel free to send us a message.
